X is testing a feature called Smart Cashtags that will attach live financial data to ticker symbols in posts, the company’s head of product, Nikita Bier, said in a post on Sunday. The tool will let users specify exact assets—including stocks and crypto—when they add cashtags such as $BTC or $NVDA, and it aims to cut down on ambiguity from overlapping symbols.

When a user taps a Smart Cashtag, the app will show an in-app page with live prices, charts, recent price moves and posts that mention the asset. In crypto cases, the feature can identify assets by their underlying smart contract addresses to ensure the correct token is displayed.

X said it will collect user feedback during testing ahead of a planned public release next month, but it did not provide details on whether the feature will include trading, payments or other monetization. The company did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The launch fits with an effort to make the platform a real-time source for market information as users discuss trading and assets more frequently. Elon Musk has previously said he wants to turn the app into an “everything app” that could include payments and financial services, and the platform’s former executives had announced support for in-app investing and trading earlier last year before leadership changes.

Nikita Bier joined the company around that leadership shift and is also an advisor to Solana and a venture partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners, with prior roles at xAI and Meta.
